The process essay was a very intriguing assignment due to the novel approach to writing I had to implement. The requirement of research data as the basis for this assignment was not new, but the nature of the data was what added a level of "shy" interest. Using the think-aloud protocol to document the my writing process and formulate data was a new approach to writing which I had never been introduced to. I felt that scrutinizing my own writing process would not only reveal it's flaws but would uncover a methodology to improve and refine my process.
During the assignment I was relatively interested in the data I collected about my writing process. I was able to identify patterns and behaviors I exhibited during writing that both contributed and detracted from a successful writing piece. These patterns were mapped into a code—as introduced in class—and were then identified in my piece. I feel that my analysis of these patterns and behaviors that comprised my process were specific and satisfactory, but the commentary from the professor suggested areas for improvement.
I feel highly comfortable with my initial grade for this piece but with refinement and more substance in some of my points and the analysis itself, I can greatly boost the overall delivery of the piece and attain a grade that truly reflects my capabilities as a writer and my ability to analyze data into a writing piece. This assignment sets a strong foundation to future writing assignments in this course by making it clear what process I undergo when composting a piece of writing and therefore allowed to gain perspective and insight when compositing a future writing piece.
